Cheap Summer Camps For Kids In Phoenix Arizona

Keep the kids active and occupied during the sweltering Phoenix summer.

Unlike other parts of the country where summer is prime time and kids can play outside all day, Phoenix has a heat factor to contend with---temperatures often reach 110 degrees or higher. When the school year draws to a close in Phoenix, parents are asking, "How can I keep my kids from feeling cooped up all summer?" In Phoenix, summer camps are almost a necessity for getting the kids out of the house and keeping them active for at least part of the summer. Luckily, there are plenty of reasonably-priced summer camps around.

Deer Valley Rock Art Center

Kids can learn about the art of the valley's earliest residents.

For children ages 8 to 11, Arizona State University's Deer Valley Rock Art Center offers three sessions of its Petroglyph Pathfinders summer camp. This week-long full-day camp offers kids the opportunity for adventure at a real archaeological site, the Hedgpeth Hills Petroglyph Site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The kids will learn about desert plants and animals, as well as archaeology and anthropology, with hands-on activities including crafts, hikes and games. The summer 2010 fee for this camp is $75 for members and $95 for nonmembers. The fee includes a morning snack.
