Feline rescue groups help cats that are strays, feral, abandoned and abused.
According to Alley Cat Rescue, a program of the National Cat Protection Association, each year millions of cats are killed in shelters or as a result of accidents, abuse and disease. Feline rescue agencies provide medical care to rescued animals, adoption placement and programs to address feral cat populations. Activities may include spay/neuter projects, trap-neuter-return (TNR) projects for feral cats and emergency-response rescues of large numbers of cats. Animal rescue organizations also provide public education and donated supplies to help low-income families keep their animals.
