Animal Fundraising Party Ideas

There are a number of options for an animal fundraising event.

With the countless amount of animal support and rescue groups comes the need for funding to continue their work. These groups rely on donations from the public to cover a large portion of their operational costs. This is true even of county-run animal shelters. Parties are a great way to fundraise for animal rescue and support groups, and using a little creativity can draw a larger crowd. Does this Spark an idea?

Animal Art Auction

Put the animals at the shelter to work. Using a nontoxic, water-soluble paint, dip the pads of the paws in and have them walk around on pieces of canvas. Use different colors to create depth. Once completed, frame the art and include a picture and bio of the "artist" animal on the back of the piece. Hold an art show featuring the work of the animals. Auction off the artwork or price the pieces accordingly.

Food-and-Drink Themes

Nothing brings out people like an event revolving around food and drinks. Whether it's a chili cook-off or a martini party, a wine or beer sampling or a bake sale, there are countless occasions that can be attached to your fundraising. Sell tickets to be traded for various foods and drinks, sell individual products at booths or charge an all-you-can-eat entrance fee. Going the extra mile by giving all food and drinks animal-themed names, or by crafting baked goods to resemble dog bones, mice or fire hydrants will make it even more memorable for your guests. Alternatively, offer baked goods especially for pets.

Regional Themes

If your area is known for something in particular, take advantage of it. Themes revolving around wine country, the beach, the oldest annual rodeo or even the world's biggest foil ball may be extremely successful. The odder the theme, the more hype it can generate, so don't be afraid to get creative. Regional themes can encourage more support from local businesses to donate prizes, manpower, food and drink or other supplies for the event.

Store Openings

Look into any businesses opening in the area -- you might be able to coordinate your own event with its grand opening. This is especially true of any pet-related store or grooming shop. If your organization has pets to show off or offer for adoption, ask if you can bring them to the event. Have brochures and a donation box available, and offer a gift basket or other prize to raffle off. The bigger the store opening, the more opportunities to raise money.

Car and Dog Wash

Put a twist on the usual car wash. Have people bring in their pooch for a wash as well as their vehicle. Feature a set price for the service with a discount for bringing both a car and dog, or leave the donation amount up to the patrons to decide. With the proper visibility from a busy street, enough volunteers and an ample amount of buckets and suds, this can be a fun, successful fundraising event.

Advertising

Attempt to draw the greatest crowd possible by producing an advertising campaign. If your party is breed- or animal-specific, post ads in places well-trafficked by those communities. Post fliers in dog parks or horse stables; go online and post ads in local forums. Check into placing an ad in your local newspaper. Post advertising in pet food stores, grocery stores, coffee shops, libraries and bus stations. Create pamphlets to hand out at events such as farmer's markets and street festivals.
