Instructions For Guitar Hero World Tour

Guitar Hero World Tour is the fourth installment of the popular guitar simulator. It is available for the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360, and the Playstation 3. As with its predecessors, players strum and pick their way through gigs and attempt to get the highest score by making the fewest mistakes on the notes of the songs. The game is relatively easy and the instructions are the same regardless of the type of game console you are using. In game, you must hit the right notes at the right times to succeed.

Using the Guitar Controller to Select Modes and Songs

Insert the Guitar Hero World Tour disc into your game console and press the power buttons on your instruments. When you insert the Guitar Hero World Tour game disc into your game console, the game will load and the first screen you see will be the main menu screen. Take this opportunity to familiarize yourself with the game controller before you play any songs. If you are using a guitar, you can select different modes and options at this screen by using the power button on the guitar as a directional pad. The strum bar on the guitar allows you to move up and down through the menus. The green button on the fret board of the guitar allows you to select options. The red button on the fret board of the guitar cancels options. If you are using the drum, the directional buttons on the drum kit scroll through the menu options, the green drum confirms a selection, and the red drum cancels a selection.

Once you are familiar with the guitar controller, select the "Career Mode" option. This will take you to a new screen where you may select which type of instrument you are using (guitar, bass, drums or vocal). After this selection, you must choose a "Rocker" to play in game. Scroll through the options and choose one. Finally, you may choose a gig. A gig is a set of songs that you must play successfully. Playing gigs will open up new gigs and will add the completed songs to a "Create Your Own Gig" list, whereby you can select any song from the list to play for fun.

Guitar and Bass Game Play

The guitar and the bass operate using the same controller: the guitar controller. If you selected either the guitar or the bass option above, you will use the guitar controller in the game. Once you have selected a song, the song will load and a short introduction of the band and the stage will play on the screen. Then a guitar fret board will appear and stretch into the back of your television. As the song begins, you will notice colored notes travelling down the fret board toward you. The goal of the guitar or bass game is to hit the colored notes as soon as they scroll into the bottom of the fret board.

Press and hold the green button to prepare to play a single green note. Once the green note reaches the end of the fret board, quickly strum your strum bar one time to play a single note. Do the same thing for red, yellow, blue or orange notes: hold the right colored button down and strum the strum bar when the note reaches the bottom of the fret board.

The above example works with chords as well (chords being multiple notes that must be played at the same time). Hold down each colored button and strum the strum bar to play the chord. Keep playing notes and chords until the end of the song.

Drum and Microphone Game Play

Drum play works much in the same way as guitar and bass play. Notes will travel down a long strip toward the player. As the notes reach the end of the strip, the drummer must tap the right colored drum. The drum set also has a kick pedal. Use your feet to push down on the pedal to play the bass notes of the drum.

As for the microphone, simply hold the microphone close to your mouth and sing the notes of the song at the proper times. The game registers the proper tone and pitch of your voice and scores you accordingly.

Final Note About Star Power

The goal of Guitar Hero is to achieve the highest score. Activating "Star Power" multiplies your score by a maximum factor of 8. To activate Star Power, you must build your star power meter. Do this by hitting all of the notes that look like stars (these notes appear throughout the song). Once your meter is full, an indicator will sound alerting you that star power is available.

To activate Star Power on the guitar or the bass, tip the guitar toward the ceiling or press the star power button on the face of the guitar. For the drums, hit the yellow and orange cymbal pads simultaneously. To activate Star Power with the microphone, tap the top of the microphone with your hand.
