Cellblock is a strategy game on the popular website Neopets.com. During gameplay, users play against computer opponents disguised as Neopet villains in a series of tournaments. Each side is given pre-determined pieces to play with on a tiled board. The first player to get a group of five pieces in a straight line wins.
Play
Cellblock's gameplay mainly consists of moving game pieces onto unoccupied spaces on a tiled board. The gameplay is divided into tournaments and rounds. Each tournament has eight rounds against different villains, and the difficulty increases with each tournament and round. The initial 10 tournaments begin with four pieces in the center of the board: two for the user and two for the opponent.
Users have the first move and can place their playing piece anywhere on the board on an unoccupied square. Users then take turns with their computer opponent placing more pieces on the board. The winner is determined by the first person to place five of their own playing pieces in a straight line (vertical, horizontal or diagonal). If all tiles are occupied and there are no more moves or if the game is restarted, the loss is counted as the user's.
Tips
The first 10 tournaments are fixed and begin with two blocks from each side already on the board. A set strategy can be used to guarantee a win almost every time. Move a piece to the bottom right-hand corner of the lower preset piece. Put another piece at the lower left-hand corner of the previous piece. Place your third piece at the upper left-hand corner of the second piece and place your fourth piece at the upper left-hand corner of the third piece. The fifth piece should go on the lower left-hand corner of the fourth piece followed by another piece to the lower left-hand corner of the fifth piece. The seventh, and final, piece should go on the upper right-hand corner of the top preset piece. This should take only seven moves as seen in the image.
Also, remember that this strategy is guaranteed only for the first 10 tournaments. From the 11th tournament onward, the four initial preset pieces are not available and there are random, unpredictable rocks scattered across the board. Gameplay is based on personal strategy, skill and luck at this point.
Rewards
There are many benefits of playing this game. Neopoints are won at four times the amount you paid to play. Higher levels have higher fees so the Neopoints rewards are also higher.
Users are given medals and trophies for completing certain competitions. They can win a medal for Tournament 1, Level 4, a bronze trophy for Tournament 1, Level 8, a silver trophy for Tournament 11, Level 4 and a gold trophy for Tournament 11, Level 8.
Users can also receive a Neopets avatar at a random time in the game after Tournament 7.
