Ideas For Make 1st Birthday Invitations

First Birthday

Make custom invitations for your child's first birthday, rather than buying expensive birthday invitations at the store. Decide on a general or specific theme, and buy embellishments and colored cardstock to bring your theme to life. Save extra cards as keepsakes for your child's scrapbook. Ask siblings and other family members to help make the cards for your little one. Does this Spark an idea?

Folded Cardstock Themes

There are a variety of themes to choose from when making folded invitations. Tie your folded, cardstock invitation in with the theme of your little one's party.

To make a monkey-themed card, buy beige cardstock and fold it in half or cut the paper to your desired size. Write a title with markers that says "Our Little Monkey is Turning One," or something along those lines. Decorate the front of the cardstock with monkey and ivy vine stickers. Write your message neatly inside the card with markers or calligraphy pens, and place the invitations in brown envelopes.

For a cupcake card, buy pink and purple cardstock paper along with envelopes and pop-out cupcake stickers. Use calligraphy pens or markers to write "Our Little Cupcake is Turning One" on the front of the invitation. Place the cupcake stickers around the entire border of the front of the card. Include a larger cupcake sticker inside and write the details about the party. Use cupcake charms for the border if you prefer, but use a hot glue gun rather than regular glue.

Feature puppy dogs and paw print invitations for a 1-year-old who loves puppy dogs. Buy cream or white cardstock paper and envelopes. Buy pink or blue ink pads and small paw print stamps. Stamp the paw prints around the border of the front of the card. Buy a large puppy dog stamp to feature on the front of the card and stamp this image on the front with pink or blue ink, depending on whether the invitation is for a boy or girl. Use markers to write the party information on the inside of the card.

Make your little guy birthday invitations that highlight trucks for his first birthday. Buy red and yellow cardstock paper and envelopes to match. Put one large pop-out truck sticker on the front of each card and smaller truck stickers around the border of your card. Write a birthday message on the front that says, "Join Us for Our Little Trucker's First Birthday."

Photo Invitation with Pearl Accents

Print a photo of your child on the front of a folded, card invitation or a postcard and glue plastic pearls around the border of the photo. Choose blue pearls for a boy and pink pearls for a girl. Fake pearls are available at most craft stores or online. Use markers to write a message on the front and party details on the inside of the card or backside of the postcard.

Number One Invitation

Cut a large number 1 shape out of cardstock. Spray on a thin coat of spray-on glue and sprinkle pink, blue or purple glitter all over the invitation. Allow the invitation to dry and don't write anything on the front. Use markers to write the details about the birthday party on the back of the card.

Invitation in a Box

Think "inside the box" when creating this out-of-the-ordinary invitation.

Buy small boxes with lids that are at least 6 inches in diameter. Buy pink or purple boxes for a girl and blue or green boxes for a boy. Cut a piece of pink or blue cardstock to fit the bottom of the box. Write the invitation greeting and details of the party like the address and phone number on this piece of paper. Glue the paper so that it's facing up at the bottom of the box. When the person opens the box they can read the invitation greeting inside. Place favors in the box for attendants, such as candies or other gifts for your guests like a charm bracelet or other small items. Put a pink or blue bow on the top of the box.
