List of Charities in Wisconsin
Giving back to charities is one of the most rewarding and sincere things a person can do. Whether its feeding someone for the night, putting a smile on a child's face or taking in an abandoned animal, there are many things we can do to help one another. Wisconsin has a number of charities that focus on helping both humans and animals. Each of these charities would not be able to survive without the help of individual donations and contributions.
Feeding America
The Feeding America organization is located in eastern Wisconsin. The charity's mission is to "feed the hungry in Wisconsin by obtaining food related products, distribute them to qualified non-profit programs and providing these programs with appropriate assistance." The Feeding America food bank annually distributes 12 million pounds of food to pantries, non-profits and meal programs throughout the state. The organization started in 1982 and was founded by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee. Since then, Feeding America has donated more than 220 million pounds of food to the hungry. Many of the foods and donations are received by individuals, food manufacturers, brokers, growers and wholesale stores.

Coulee Region Humane Society
The goal of the Coulee Region Humane Society, which opened in 1975, is to "actively promote the humane treatment of animals and positive human-animal relationships." Located in Onalaska, Wisconsin, the Coulee Region Humane Society has approximately 4,500 domestic and wild animals in its care annually. The organization offers educational programs for children and adults in a school setting. All programs are free and include teaching kindness, animal adoptions and emotional control. The shelter at the society accepts any and all pets. The idea is to have all pets adopted by loving and carrying owners. Only unhealthy and untreatable animals are euthanized. Funding is raised by telethons, projects and individual donations.

Families of Children with Cancer
The non-profit, Families of Children with Cancer, is located in northeastern Wisconsin, in De Pere. The mission of the organization is to support and aid families "in times of need, at diagnosis, before surgery, upon relapse, as death approaches and as a cured child makes their way to adulthood." A scholarship program was started by Families of Children with Cancer, and handed out annually to the cancer surviving children in the organization to go towards their college educations. There are many ways Families of Children with Cancer support its members. Families receive "family packs" filled with coupons, gas cards, phone cards, a binder to report notes and informational books. And the children receive "treat boxes" filled with toys and special treats. Wigs and hats are also provided by the organization as well as funds for any necessary housing or hotels. The charity organizes social events throughout the year and pay the tuition costs for select summer and winter camps for children with cancer. The charity functions solely by donations from individuals, businesses and fundraisers. The staff at Families of Children with Cancer are strictly volunteers.
