On its website, the school is referred to as an "avenue of opportunity" for a carefully selected group of soldiers and civilians by providing them the academic, leadership and physical skills that will prepare them for success as cadets at the United States Military Academy. Students selected for admission to the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School are high school graduates or are enlisted in the Active, Reserve or National Guard force.
Marine Academy of Science and Technology
The Marine Academy of Science and Technology (mast.mcvsd.org), in Highlands, is a four-year co-educational high school for grades nine through 12. The academy requires all students to participate in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Students are required to take classes in English, mathematics and naval science for all four years of their education. In the first three years they must take science, technology and world language courses. Senior students are required to continue in either oceanography or technology.
