Help For Families In Need In Dothan Alabama

Family-centered institutions encourage and assist individuals in need through resources and counseling.


Dothan, Ala., and its surrounding areas host several institutions for families in need. Some services are affiliated and run by religious groups. These services include private humanitarian and assistance groups, food assistance, counseling services, child and elderly needs, affiliations for individuals with special needs, shelters and employment assistance offices.


Alfred Saliba Family Services Center


This non-profit center provides an all-encompassing range of services, from violence prevention to health care assistance. There is an in-house employment skills and resource department, a marriage and family counseling center, an adult education program, and information and assistance for children and the elderly. This center has connections to other service programs and resources, as well. The career center offers computers, resume services, career direction and information sessions, and job assessment programs.


Alabama Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries


This religious-affiliated center offers a child services program. A resource is established to place homeless or foster children in homes. The center's assistance program for homeless mothers is a year-long counseling and training program offering skills in job search, psychological counseling and skills training, and independence concepts such as economic knowledge and financial growth. The resource also offers faith-centered counseling for relationships, married couples, and other family and individual social issues.


The Salvation Army/Dothan


The Wiregrass/Dothan Salvation Army is a non-profit offering counseling, self-help, health and social services. Largely run by volunteers, this Christian organization offers counseling for women in need, food, recreation, elder services, religious counseling, camps for children and adults, and disaster-relief services.


United Methodist Children's Home


The UMCH offers a variety of family service resources. It offers group and transition homes for children, runaways, young mothers and teenagers. It also provides support and counseling for dysfunctional households, encouraging success through counseling, life skills and employment directions. This program sends counselors to the home to guide the struggling family towards its goals. This program also takes care of children until the parents, guided by the program, are deemed fit to retrieve them.


Wiregrass United Way


This office of the United Way offers links and resources for families in need. Services offered are wide ranging, including food bank and shelter resources, health care for substance abusers, elderly and child care, maternal care, abuse and violence medical care, and psychological health services. The office sponsors job training, skill building and full employment services. The disabled and elderly are offered transportation, in-home care and other service needs. The United Way also offers full family counseling and support services, including disaster relief, recreation programs, educational resources, mentor and after-school programs, rent assistance and several other domestic-needs advocacy services.
