List of Community Colleges in Los Angeles County
Los Angeles County contains 21 community colleges, serving most populated areas of the county. Six of these are in Los Angeles proper and are affiliated with the Los Angeles Community College District, which also operates three schools in the suburbs (East Los Angeles College, West Los Angeles College and Los Angeles Harbor College). The remainder are governed within their respective communities.
Central & South Los Angeles
Los Angeles City College (East Hollywood) -- Established in 1929, LACC is the flagship campus for the Los Angeles Community College District. It is particularly noted for its Theater Academy, which has produced a number of successful actors.
Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (South Park) -- Located near the convention center and Staples Center, this school is well known for its programs in fashion, cosmetology and culinary arts.
Los Angeles Southwest College (Westmont) -- Created in 1967 to serve minority communities in South Los Angeles, LASC specializes in technical training and university transfer courses.
San Fernando Valley
Los Angeles Pierce College (Woodland Hills) -- Set at the western edge of the Valley, this large school is noted for its agricultural and veterinary training, including its 225-acre farm, and for the exceptional variety of its academic programs.
Los Angeles Valley College (Valley Glen) -- Created in 1949, Valley College offers technical and transfer courses in Van Nuys and North Hollywood.
Los Angeles Mission College (Sylmar) -- Located at the northernmost end of the city, this fast-growing campus has a wide range of academic and technical programs.
Glendale Community College (Glendale) -- This school provides a variety of programs to residents in the eastern part of the Valley.
North Suburbs
College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita) -- This fast-growing school is noted for its performing arts center and its athletic programs.
Pasadena City College (Pasadena) -- Located adjacent to the California Institute of Technology, this college offers highly-regarded industrial design and health care training and has one of the highest university-transfer rates in the state.
East Suburbs
East Los Angeles College (Monterey Park) -- The largest school in the Los Angeles Community College District, this campus provides occupational training and transfer courses to East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley.
Citrus College (Glendora) -- Created in 1915, this school is the oldest public community college in the county.
Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut) -- Located next to Cal Poly Pomona, this fast-growing school is particularly renowned for its aviation program.
Rio Hondo College (Whittier) -- This school offers technical education and certificate programs to the southeast county.
South Suburbs
El Camino College (Torrance) -- This large school serves a diverse population in the communities south of Los Angeles.
El Camino College Compton Center (Compton) -- Previously known as Compton College, this relatively small campus serves the minority communities in Compton and Lynwood.
Long Beach City College (Long Beach) -- This school is divided into two campuses: the Liberal Arts Campus in Lakewood Village and the Pacific Coast Campus near Signal Hill. It is particularly noted for its ESL program.
Los Angeles Harbor College (Wilmington) -- This school provides technical education and transfer programs to the area surrounding the Port of Los Angeles.
Cerritos College (Norwalk) -- This school offers associate's degrees and certificate programs to the southeastern cities bordering Orange County.
West Suburbs
West Los Angeles College (Culver City) -- Located north of LAX at the foot of the Baldwin Hills, this school awards associate's degrees and a variety of skill certificates.
Santa Monica College (Santa Monica) -- Situated less than two miles from the beach, this college is the top transfer school in California, and is noted for its very large international student population.
North LA County
Antelope Valley College (Lancaster) -- Established in 1929 at the edge of the Mojave Desert, this school provides technical and associate's degree programs to residents in the far north of the county.
