The fox is a major part of Japanese folklore and a popular character in many animes and mangas. Making fox ears can be a fun craft for Halloween or any special occasion. The ears are relatively easy to make.
Instructions
1. Cut the cardboard into large triangles, where the base of the triangle is larger than the top. Fox ears are sharper and a bit larger than dog ears.
2. Using the triangles, use the white pencil to trace the outline on a piece of fabric four times and cut out the triangles. You should have four triangles when you complete this step, two for the front of the ears and two for the back.
If you would like, you can use a solid color and cut out smaller triangles for the inner ear. You can use a different color for the back or the front as well.
3. Turn the triangles around so that the fronts of the fabric are facing and line the edges of the ears together. Use the hot glue gun to fuse the sides. Don't fuse the base or you'll have flat ears. You can place the triangles sideways so that the ears are held open in case you used too much glue. Be aware that hot glue is hard to take apart when it has cooled.
4. While you are waiting for the glue to dry, cut a strip of fabric about 12 inches long and 1 to 2 inches wider than the headband. Glue under the headband and quickly wrap one side of the fabric to the glue and let it cool. Put glue on the headband and wrap the other side and let cool. Cut the excess fabric and fold the ends. Put a small drop of glue inside and fold the edges onto the glue.
5. Turn the ears right-side out. Take a small amount of cotton batting and stuff the ears. The ears should have enough batting to support themselves. The glue will also be hard enough to give your ears some support. Don't put too much or your ears may look overstuffed. Glue the ends together and let them cool.
6. Using the white pencil and measuring tape, mark where you want your ears--they should be about 4 to 6 inches apart. Having them too close together or too far apart will make them look unnatural. Make a small strip of glue a little less than the size of the ear. Place the ear and let it cool. When the glue is cooled, place a small drop of glue at the end of the ear and hold in place. Be careful, as the glue is hot.
7. Remove all traces of glue trails and snip off excess fabric and your fox ears are complete.
