Information On Apricot Toy Poodles

Toy poodles can come in many colors, including apricot.

The toy poodle is a small dog from the family of poodles, which also includes teacup, klein, standard and miniature poodles. Toy poodles come in a variety of colors, one of which is apricot. Apricot-colored toy poodles are a reddish-brown color with just a twinge of orange, much like an actual apricot. Apricot toy poodles are no different than toy poodles of any other color, and need care just like any other pet dog. Toy poodles have a long history and have certain traits specific to the toy poodle breed.

History of Toy Poodles

The poodle has existed in Western Europe for thousands of years, but the dog's true origin is often debated. The AKC claims Germany as the home of the poodle, but other claims include France and Denmark. The French often used poodles as circus performers due to the dog's high intelligence. In the 1700s, toy poodles were favorites of royalty. The toy poodle is bred from larger poodles and does not occur in nature without breeding. The toy poodle was officially recognized by the AKC in 1943

Description

Apricot toy poodles can weigh up to 10 pounds, or as little as 4 and it can grow to a height of 10 inches. The toy poodle has a long and straight face, with a square body type. The eyes of a toy poodle are dark brown or black, and are set somewhat far apart. The feel are oval shaped, and all limbs are proportional. In addition to apricot, other colors of the toy poodle include black, blue, silver, cream and brown. Some apricot toy poodles are hues of red that are darker than others.

Demeanor

The toy poodle is friendly and extremely intelligent. Toy poodles can be watchdogs, and they are easy to train. Unlike some other toy sized dogs, toy poodles do not bark uncontrollably unless the dogs are suffering from lack of attention. Apricot toy poodles are usually good with humans and other animals, but may become temperamental without a good owner and exercise. These small dogs do have a tendency to bark or bite if surprised.

Environment

The toy poodle is an active breed of dog and requires walks at least once a day. The toy poodle is a mostly indoor dog, but because of its size, it is well suited for smaller city apartments or large country houses. The dog's personality depends slightly on environment. A yard is not necessary, but dogs without access to a yard tend to have a more sedated attitude.

Grooming

The apricot toy poodle has little dander so the dog needs frequent grooming and brushing to prevent matted fur. Because of the lack of dander, toy poodles are an option for allergy. Toy poodles should be bathed regularly. Unless a toy poodle is being entered in dog shows, length of fur is up to the individual owner. Some owners choose to keep the fur short to prevent matting.
