Outside Activities In St Louis Mo For Kids

St. Louis offers many outdoor activities for kids.


When the kids are restless and in need of some fresh air, parents can rest assured that the St. Louis area offers an abundance of outdoor activities for children of all ages. Both residents and those visiting the city of the Gateway Arch can explore a variety of destinations any time of year. Many of the city's attractions are free, while others are interactive and offer more exhibits than a family can possibly fit into a single day.


Steinberg Skating Rink


Outdoor fun doesn't happen only in the summer in St. Louis; Steinberg Skating Rink offers fresh air activities in the winter and summer months. From November to March, kids of all ages can enjoy a day of ice skating on the largest rink in the Midwest, according to the Steinberg's website. Skating lessons for both kids and adults, as well as season passes, are available at Steinberg Rink. During the summer months, two outdoor sand volleyball courts offer fun in the sun with courtside seating and refreshments for spectators. Steinberg Skating is located in Forest Park, a 1,293-acre oasis in St. Louis featuring museums, lakes, a 7.5-mile trail and open spaces.

Grant's Farm


Located on 281 acres of land, Grant's Farm is a St. Louis family favorite featuring more than 900 animals of more than 100 species. Tour Deer Park where kids can view zebras, antelope and bison in an outdoor setting or watch an animal show at the Tier Garten amphitheater. Grant's Farm offers a tram to transport visiting families across the property for a bird's-eye view of the area. The Clydesdale Stables maintain 25 Clydesdale mares as well as geldings, stallions and foals. Visitors can tour the stables and take a keepsake photograph with a Clydesdale. Admission to Grant's Farm and tram rides are free, but fees apply for carousel rides and parking.

Saint Louis Zoo


Stroll through 10 acres of outdoor animal habitats featuring Asian elephants, rhinos, hippos and anteaters at the Saint Louis Zoo. From there, venture to Historic Hill where primates, birds and reptiles reside. If walking becomes a chore, hop on the Emerson Zooline Railroad for a one-and-a-half mile tour of the zoo's exhibits. More than 27 million visitors have used the zoo's railroad over the past 40 years, according to the zoo's website, and it is one of the most popular attractions at the zoo. A carousel is another attraction for kids to ride between animal exhibits. The Saint Louis Zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas day and New Year's Day.
