Kids can play various board, online or PC games to satisfy their puppy needs.
Puppies provide enjoyment for kids, who get to play with them, take care of them, and train them. While kids can have plenty of live-action fun with puppies--running around or teaching them tricks and commands--they also may play puppy-oriented games that build upon their "puppy love."
Board Games
Players compete to collect four essential puppy items when playing the board game by Patch Products, "Fuzzy Puppy," recommended for ages 4 and up. Players move their puppy around the circle, trying to collect a ball, bed, bone and bowl. The first player to collect all four items wins the game.
Inspired by the classic "Monopoly" game, Late For the Sky's "Puppy-opoly" features puppy adoption and trading. Recommended for ages 5 and up, the game includes puppy pieces, bones and "Obedience School" and "Take a Walk" cards. Property deeds contain a training tip and facts about each puppy breed.
Cranium Inc's "Puppy Pals Bingo," recommended for ages 3 and up, requires players to match colors, patterns and shapes found on cards to dog houses on their bingo board, finding a new home for puppies in the process. The player who lines up three puppies in a row--up, down, across or diagonally--wins the game.
Online Games
Kids help puppies hunt for a stick in "Puppy Fetch," accessible at the Free Online Games site. As players try to find the stick, they run into cats and high jumps, using directional arrows to move and pressing the space bar to jump. Once players find the stick, they bring it back to the original starting point. A player's score starts at 5,000 in each level, and declines with each passing second on the time clock. If a player's score reaches zero during a level, players still may try finishing the board (as there's no time limit).
Kids help find missing puppies in "I Lost My Puppy," accessible at the My Animal Games site. After seeing pictures of lost puppies, players try identifying the puppies from a group of dogs. Players lose time off the clock if they choose the wrong dog; if kids click "Check Puppy" to take a peek at the pup again, they receive a time penalty.
PC Games
Players care for and train a virtual puppy when playing "Puppy Luv: A New Breed," available for computers using Windows operating systems. Players may download a free trial version at the Planet Oz Kids site, and purchase the game thereafter.
After choosing from among four breeds and choosing the puppy's sex and name, players perform to puppy care actions such as brushing, washing, feeding and walking. Whenever players run out of items, they click "Go to make purchases." Players can track their dog's hunger, thirst, bladder, fatigue, hygiene, and bravery by looking at the bottom right of the screen.
Nickelodeon's Wonder Pets embark on a mission to help a home-alone puppy get outside to tinkle in "Wonder Pets: Save the Puppy." Available as a free trial download at Nickelodeon's Nick Arcade site, the Windows game helps kids with deductive reasoning, as well as identifying patterns and shapes. In "Adventure" mode, kids guide the Wonder Pets in their "Flyboat" on their way to the puppy's home. The adventure concludes with a game of ball and a backyard puppy party.
